2 TWO CONFIRMED COVIDE CASES IN THORNE BAY

Thorne Bay City staff was notified by Alaska Public Health on Wednesday, July 28, 2021, of TWO CONFIRMED COVID-19 cases in Thorne Bay.  Public Health and the Alaska Division of Epidemiology have completed the case investigation and contact tracing.  All persons who were in contact with the patient have been notified.

There were TWELVE NEW cases of COVID-19 confirmed on the Island just today, providing a total of twentytwo (22) active cases on Prince of Wales Island, including the 2 active cases in Thorne Bay. One of the cases in Thorne Bay was attributed to secondary spread from a known positive case.

It is extremely important for all unvaccinated residents to continue to follow all health advisories to reduce the risk of spreading the virus in Thorne Bay. These measures include:

  • Keep social gatherings small and maintain good social distancing at all times keeping at least six feet between non-household members.
  • Wear a face mask/covering when in public settings.
  • Wash your hands frequently and avoid touching your face as much as possible
  • Do not share food with others
  • If you have any symptoms of illness, even mild, contact your primary healthcare provider and self-isolate immediately
  • Consider getting the COVID-19 vaccine. The vaccine is available for all residents ages 12 and older.

If you have been fully vaccinated (both doses of Moderna/Pfizer or a single dose of J&J vaccine plus two weeks), then you do not have to quarantine if you are identified as a contact of a positive case.  You can contact SEARHC at 755-4800 or PeaceHealth Prince of Wales at 826-3257 if you are symptomatic, need testing for travel (or other testing needs), or want to sign up to be vaccinated.
