About Thorne Bay School

“Thorne Bay is a tight knit community on the Prince of Wales Island beautifully situated with forested mountain views fringing the sea.

Our school (of approximately 75 students PreK-12) is welcoming and inclusive. Staff are supportive of student venturing out into new interests. Electives change year to year depending on staff strengths and student interests. Past pursuits have included ceramics, welding, sewing, culinary arts, kayaking, wall climbing, scuba diving, archery, cross country, volleyball, basketball, and track. Teacher housing is available to help teachers and their families focus on becoming part of the community.

Though Thorne Bay is small, it offers great adventure in the form of hiking, hunting, fishing, kayaking and much more. Thorne Bay has a restaurant, a grocery store, a bait/hunting supply store, a gas station mercantile, and a hardware store. Two to three float plane companies fly in and out of Thorne Bay daily. Also, wheeled planes and a daily ferry are available for those travelling to or from our island. ”
