WHEN CAN I EXPECT THE GIFT CARDS FOR THE THORNE BAY MARKET?

Gift cards for the Thorne Bay Market will be mailed on Monday December 21st, to all eligible households that applied for the Residential Relief Funding and selected this method of payment.

When can I expect to have the funding for my City Utility account processed?

Residents that requested their Residential Relief Funding to be used for their City utilities (water, sewer, garbage), will also be processed on Monday, December 21, 2020.

The deadline to submit applications for the Residential Relief Funding is Friday, December 18, 2020, BY 12:00PM. The City will begin to review applications Friday afternoon and will mail each eligible household their Certificates for the Thorne Bay Market Monday, December 21, 2020. If you applied for your funding as gift card(s) and have not received anything by Wednesday, December 23rd, please contact City Hall.

COMPREHENSIVE DEVELOPMENT PLAN WORKSHOP

On January 13, 2021, at 6:30 p.m. the City of Thorne Bay will hold a public information workshop related to the preparation of updating the City’s Comprehensive Development Plan.

This will be held via Cisco WebEx. Information for participating in this meeting is provided below. 

The purpose of the meeting is to review the current Comprehensive Plan and set a meeting schedule for the completion of this long-term plan. Additionally, this meeting will engage meeting participants to solicit important feedback from the community.

The Comprehensive Plan is a long-range plan that will provide guidance for the physical growth and development in the City over the next fifteen years. The plan will include an assessment of existing conditions, set goals for the future, and recommend projects, policies and programs to achieve community planning goals.

Once adopted, the Plan will serve as a decision-making guide for City staff and elected officials for decisions related to land use, public investments, and capital improvements.

The project will be directed by a committee representing elected officials, local businesses and community citizens.

APPLY FOR RESIDENTIAL RELIEF FUNDING TODAY

Thorne Bay Residential Utility & Grocery Assistance Grant Application

The City of Thorne Bay is providing residents with another round of relief funds from the State of Alaska CARES program to help mitigate the effects of COVID-19.  While the full impact of COVID-19 on our country is still unknown, it has already significantly disrupted the lives of many, including most Thorne Bay residents.

The City has allocated funding for the purpose of alleviating the economic strain families and individuals may have experienced as a result of increased prices for food, lost work time, reduced working hours, lack of childcare, or other lost income.

APPLICANT ELIGIBILITY

  1. Be a resident of Thorne Bay prior to December 1, 2020

Each household within Thorne Bay city limits is eligible for $750.00 in CARES funding from the City. Payments will be provided toward your choice of your Thorne Bay City Utility Account and/or a Gift Card to the Thorne Bay Market.

Applications must be submitted by Friday, December 18, 2020 by 12pm. Only complete applications will be considered.  One application per household.

All households are strongly encouraged to apply for this funding.  As of December 30, 2020, any remaining CARES funding in the City Account will be returned to the State of Alaska.

2-NEWLY CONFIRMED COVID-19 CASES IN THORNE BAY

Thorne Bay City staff was notified by Alaska Public Health on Tuesday, November 24, 2020, of the FIFTH confirmed COVID-19 case in Thorne Bay. Three of the confirmed cases are recovered and there is currently TWO ACTIVE cases in Thorne Bay at this time.
Public health and the division of epidemiology are currently conducting a case investigation to determine how the patients were exposed and the potential scope of contacts. Additional information will be released as it is available.

JOB OPENING for Full-Time Deckhand

The Inter-Island Ferry Authority is now accepting applications for a Full-Time Deckhand with rotating Night watch duties with full benefits. Position requires a 12-hour shift, 4 days on and 4 days off, good customer service skills, the ability to lift 70lbs, work outside in inclement weather and is based out of Hollis, Alaska. Duties include: customer service contact for passengers; vessel security; vehicle loading and unloading; line handling; emergency response; vessel cleaning; other duties as assigned. Merchant Mariner document and Marine Engineering experience preferred.

A TWIC card is required within 30 days of hire for this position. All applicants must pass a pre-employment drug test and will be subject to random testing throughout employment.
