NOTICE OF SALES TAX AUDIT

The City of Thorne Bay is continuing the Sales Tax Audit of records for all businesses operating or conducting business within the Thorne Bay City Limits.

Thorne Bay Municipal Code 3.17.070 requires that every seller keep and preserve suitable records of all sales made by him, and such other books or accounts as may be necessary for the revenue collector to determine the amount of tax for the collection of which he is liable hereunder. Every such person shall keep and preserve these records for a period of 2 years.

All businesses which claim non-taxable income from sales delivered outside of the City, must provide a detailed record of the exemption for the 1st Quarter 2018 Sales Tax.

The 1st Quarter Sales Tax for 2018, begins on January 1, 2018, ending March 31, 2018.  Sales tax for the first quarter of 2018 is due by April 30, 2018 to avoid late fees and interest.

The Tax Exemption record should include the information listed below:

  1. Individual and/or Company Name of buyer
  2. Delivery address (City, State, Zip)
  3. Date of sale
  4. Amount of sale

Failure to include exemption records for sales delivered outside of city limits, with your Sales Tax Return form, will result with the City of Thorne Bay not recognizing the exemption amount listed on your return, and the seller will be required to remit sales tax for those sales.
