South TNB/Kasaan Road Update – FUEL DELIVERY

As of Tuesday, January 15th Petro Marine is delivering heating fuel to Kasaan and South Thorne Bay, because of the improvements on the Lake Ellen/bypass road. Thank you to OVK and the City of Kasaan and City of Thorne Bay for getting that road “truck ready”.

EMERGENCY NOTICE OF ROAD CLOSURE

The South Thorne Bay / Kasaan Road is closed due to a Landslide at the 3-mile marker

LANDSLIDE SOUTH THORNE BAY / KASAAN ROAD – 3 MILE MARKER

A USFS team is assessing the slide right now (Jan. 3, 2019) and will make their recommendations soon.  The City of Kasaan and Organized Village of Kasaan are assisting.

In the meantime – Kasaan, South Thorne Bay subdivision, & Steep road IS accessible via a back road – the Lake Ellen road is passable and comes back in to the Kasaan Road at Tolstoi Bay.  Both entrances are marked with signage.  From there you can drive back to the subdivision or to Kasaan.  Also, Davidson Landing is there for people who have access to a boat, to get back and forth from ‘town’ to the subdivision (or Kasaan, for that matter)

If there is an emergency in South Thorne Bay call 911.  All medical transports will be by boat from Davidson Landing until further notice.

Please do not attempt to cross the slide on foot for safety reason
